Pipes are the simplest device used to smoke marijuana. For the most part they are similar to pipes used to smoke tobacco but marijuana pipes should be made of heat resistant materials such as stone, ivory, metal, glass, and occasionally harder woods. Marijuana pipes need to be made from heat resistant materials unlike tobacco which you need to use less ongoing flame. A slight variation to the traditional pipe is the chamber pipe, a pipe where one may store a small amount of grass. The smoker inhales the smoke through the grass which acts as a filter for any bits of mull which are accidentally sucked through. After several weeks the grass is covered with resin. This mull is eventually smoked in the traditional way. It tends be quite strong as the mull is encrusted with resin.
