Three years ago, I started using CBD or cannabidiol. I used it because I suffered from anxiety and depression. I hid this from family and friends because I was afraid they would judge me. People have a misconception of what CBD is. They think you smoke joints, eat gummies and get high. I was trying to avoid any weird questions about my CBD use.

These days, people are more aware of CBD and its therapeutic properties. Here, I shortly describe CBD. If this convinces you to use it, you can try out the fun and easy recipe I’ve included in the end.

CBD Basics

Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is a non-pyschoactive component derived from hemp or marijuana. It does not cause feelings of euphoria unlike THC, another well-known cannabinoid. People utilize CBD for its herbal healing power, considering all the medicinal benefits that come with it. It has been legalized all over the USA because it cannot get you high. If you take CBD, it won’t show up in a drug test unless the product you used contains a little THC.

THC Versus CBD

Products low in CBD are high in THC, and vice versa. What makes the two so different from each other is that CBD will not get you high, but THC will. Both of them do have interactions with a particular system in your body called the endocannabinoid system. They are received by the cannabinoid receptors in your body, but only THC will affect your senses.

Hemp Versus CBD

You can derive CBD from either hemp or marijuana. Your ordinary grocery-store hemp seeds are much more different from hemp-derived CBD. The hemp seeds might have a lot of benefits such as minerals, nutrients and vitamins, but they do not automatically have CBD. CBD marijuana or hemp oil come from the entire plant cannabis, unlike hemp seeds.

You can make CBD hemp oil using the whole plant cannabis, such as the stem, flowers or leaves. It can have traces of THC, while hemp only has less than one percent THC levels. Hemp on its own does not have as much medicinal benefits as pure CBD.

If you ever plan on buying CBD, they are either derived from marijuana or hemp. Make sure you check out a few things before purchasing to make sure you know what you’re buying.

One thing you should definitely take a look at is the label for Nutrition Facts. Hemp oil is considered a food, while CBD is a supplement. If the label contains words like “whole foods” or ”gluten-free”, the item is probably hemp seed oil or hemp seeds.

For CBD products, there should be no words such as “relieves pain and inflammation” on the label because they are not allowed to make medicinal claims.

Another thing to look out for if the strength of the CBD in milligrams. Just like supplements and vitamins, CBD vape cartridge also has particular routines and dosages you need to follow. Since there is usually no CBD found in hemp seed oil, the product label won’t contain strengths. CBD strengths are anywhere between two milligrams to 250 milligrams. Each individual have varying dosages and strengths.

CBD Cups with Only 4 Ingredients

If the previous paragraphs have convinced you on what makes CBD amazing, you can add it to your everyday routine. This recipe for CBD cups make a great and healthy dessert. If you want it sweeter, you can put in honey or maple syrup.

There are a variety of ways you can include CBD crystals isolate into the recipe. You can put in tinctures, melted CBD chocolate, or combine the cacao powder with CBD coconut oil. The simplest option is using tincture, which is what I used in this recipe.

Preparation Time: Ten minutes

Cooking Time: Sixty minutes


  • 1 Tablespoon raw honey or maple syrup, optional
  • 1 Tablespoon CBD oil
  • ½ cup melted coconut butter
  • ½ cup cacao powder
  • ½ cup melted coconut oil
  1. Get a muffin tin. Line it with muffin liners. Put this aside.
  2. Melt the coconut oil in a bowl. Get the cacao powder and mix it into the oil. Do this until the mixture is no longer lumpy.
  3. If you want to sweeten the recipe, add maple syrup or raw honey to the cacao and coconut oil mixture.
  4. When you are done mixing it together, you can transfer the mixture to the muffin tin you set aside earlier. Use a measuring spoon at about ¼ cup for a more even distribution. 6-8 muffin liners will be filled.
  5. Introduce ½ teaspoon of CBD oil into each liner to assure proper dosage. Mix the oil carefully with the coconut oil and cacao powder.
  6. Put the tin into the fridge so it can cool down for thirty minutes.
  7. Melt the coconut butter in a bowl.
  8. Take the tin out of the fridge. Top each liner with one tablespoon coconut butter. Do this quickly because the coconut oil and cacao filling will start to melt. When you are done, put this back in the fridge. Let it set for thirty minutes.
  9. When everything has cooled down, you can take it out to eat. Make sure you put them in the freezer if you aren’t going to finish everything, unless you want melted cups!
